Who We Are

Founded in 2017 by Alison and David Cohen, the Cohen Defense Group, Inc. has grown into the largest private criminal defense firm in the Sierra, with offices in Auburn, Roseville, Nevada City, and Truckee, California. Our team of attorneys includes two State Bar-Certified Criminal Law Specialists and has been recognized repeatedly by Super Lawyers Magazine, Sacramento Magazine, and Sactown Magazine for excellence in criminal defense.

Cohen Defense Group History

We began our legal careers in the 1990s at a well-established criminal defense practice in Auburn, California. When the owner retired in 2016, we took over the firm. Our dream of marshaling the best legal talents in California to create a five-star criminal defense team has now come to fruition in the Cohen Defense Group, Inc., and we couldn’t be prouder. With the overarching idea that “we are here to help,” every attorney at the Cohen Defense Group cares about their clients and genuinely wants to achieve the best possible outcome in every case. Record Expunged

Amber Zehrung

I petitioned the court to reduce my client’s felony to a misdemeanor and expunge his record. The court granted both motions based on the documents and legal briefs I filed that demonstrated my client’s compliance with probation and rehabilitation.

Case Dismissed

Zachary Merliss

The judge dismissed my case after a hung jury, finding it unlikely that a retrial would result in a guilty verdict.

Sarah Einhorn

My client faced jail time and probation on a case that was more than three years old. She was not given notice of the charges in a timely manner, which violated her constitutional right to a speedy trial. I raised the issue and asked for a dismissal. After discussion and consideration of the law, the District Attorney agreed that the time had passed to prosecute the case, and it was dismissed.

My client was charged with felony car theft. At preliminary hearing I was able to convey to the DA that my client had no idea that the car had been reported stolen. The DA dismissed the case.
