Who We Are

Founded in 2017 by Alison and David Cohen, the Cohen Defense Group, Inc. has grown into the largest private criminal defense firm in the Sierra, with offices in Auburn, Roseville, Nevada City, and Truckee, California. Our team of attorneys includes two State Bar-Certified Criminal Law Specialists and has been recognized repeatedly by Super Lawyers Magazine, Sacramento Magazine, and Sactown Magazine for excellence in criminal defense.

Cohen Defense Group History

We began our legal careers in the 1990s at a well-established criminal defense practice in Auburn, California. When the owner retired in 2016, we took over the firm. Our dream of marshaling the best legal talents in California to create a five-star criminal defense team has now come to fruition in the Cohen Defense Group, Inc., and we couldn’t be prouder. Strike Offenses Dismissed

Danielle Nygren

My 18-year-old client was facing several serious felony charges that would qualify as “strikes” under the Three Strikes Law. A contentious hearing was held to determine if he should remain in custody while the case was pending. The judge allowed my client to go home over the DA’s objection. He did extremely well, working and paying for his own car and apartment. His case later resolved for an admission to one felony, with all the others being dismissed.

Case Dismissed

Zachary Merliss

I challenged geofence tracking evidence at a preliminary hearing. The court found the evidence was insufficient to support a charge and dismissed my client’s case.

Case Dismissed, Arrest Record Sealed

Angel Sanchez

My client was accused of a hit and run. I advised my client to complete an online driver’s safety course and presented proof of that to the DA, along with other positive information about my client. The DA agreed to let my client participate in a three month diversion program. My client successfully completed diversion, the case was dismissed, and the arrest record was sealed.

Investigation Leads to Dismissal

Sarah Einhorn

My client was charged with domestic violence and minor drug charges. We refused to waive time and set the case for trial. We gathered evidence of two incidents in which my client was shown to be the victim of violence perpetrated by the alleged victim in our case. Our investigator was unable to locate the alleged victim, as was the DA. Based on our work, the case was dismissed before trial.
